Event Details

Join Women’s eNews and Hollaback, the movement to end street harassment, for a screening of War Zone on Monday, April 16.

Have you ever been a victim of unwanted whistles or kissing sounds?

There exists a clear legal framework to reproach sexual harassment and abuse in the home and at work, but when it comes to the streets—all bets are off.

Join filmmaker Maggie Hadleigh -West and founder of Hollaback Emily May to watch this classic documentary and talk about how to counteract unwanted sexual attention on the streets.

A reception will be provided after the event.

War Zone

Written & Directed by Maggie Hadleigh-West and Produced by Hank Levine

War Zone is about sex, power and what happens when men—either knowingly or unknowingly—threaten a woman’s right to walk undisturbed on the streets. What exactly do catcalls, leers or a whole litany of other behaviors mean to a woman? And why do men engage in these behaviors? War Zone has been screened and applauded at scores of festivals in the U.S. and abroad. She has appeared to discuss the film on the Today Show, CBS News, 20/20, BBC, NPR, CNN, and Eye to Eye with Connie Chung.

Hollaback

Hollaback! is a movement dedicated to ending street harassment using mobile technology. Street harassment is one of the most pervasive forms of gender-based violence and one of the least legislated against. By collecting women and LGBTQ folks’ stories and pictures in a safe and share-able way with their very own mobile phone applications, Hollaback! is creating a crowd-sourced initiative to end street harassment.
